Searching for a Warrant in Cameron County
No complete countywide public warrant search was located in the official sources. The Sheriff Home links to a Most Wanted page, but its target returned 404 during the September 2026 research check. The county inmate display is custody-oriented. Cameron’s public court portal offers Smart Search and Search Hearings, but its landing page does not advertise a warrant-status field.
First identify the court or agency named on the citation, notice, or case paper. Use a cause or warrant number when known. For a name search, use your full legal name and date of birth only on an official form that requests them. A blank result is a starting point for a call, not confirmation that the court has no process.
- Read the court name and case number on the citation or notice before choosing a search route.
- For a Brownsville city citation, use the official Tyler form with the citation and date of birth when available.
- For a JP citation, select the exact precinct through the Cameron County JP directory; its payment pages are not a county warrant index.
- Call the issuing court for FTA, capias, or current warrant status. Call Sheriff dispatch at (956) 554-6700 only to ask for the right county unit.
- Use the Sheriff’s Public Information Act route for existing records or copies, and contact counsel for a personal resolution plan.
Cameron County Warrant Portal Search Limits
The county’s public portal opens to Smart Search and Search Hearings and requires JavaScript and cookies. Those labels point to court case or hearing information. The inspected landing page did not show a warrant field, an active-warrant filter, or a result statement that confirms countywide coverage.
Use the portal only for the function it exposes. A hearing entry may help identify a court or case, but it is not a substitute for a clerk’s confirmation of warrant status. If the portal does not answer the question, move to the court printed on the case paper.
A screenshot shows the county’s Smart Search and Search Hearings interface. Open the Cameron County portal to see the current landing page.
The interface helps route a case inquiry; it does not establish that every county court reports warrant data there.
Cameron County Warrant Search Fields Explained
Brownsville Municipal Court has the clearest public search form in the local research. It is a city-court search, not a Cameron County system. The form offers several ways to identify a citation, and it does not show a warrant-only filter or a court-selection dropdown. Choose the narrowest identifier you already have.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Citation number + DOB | Text and date | Pair shown | Best route when the citation is available. |
| Driver license + state + DOB | Text and state selector | Pair shown | Brownsville city form; not a countywide search. |
| SSN + DOB | Text and date | Pair shown | Sensitive option; prefer citation or license fields when possible. |
| Plate + state | Text and state selector | Pair shown | Use for a Brownsville municipal citation route. |
| First and last name + DOB | Text and date | Pair shown | No public partial-match behavior was documented. |
| Business name | Text | Field shown | The form also exposes Sign In/Register; public search does not require treating an account as a search field. |
Cameron County Brownsville Warrant Search Is City Only
The official Brownsville Tyler Municipal Court search can search by citation and DOB, driver license and state with DOB, SSN with DOB, plate and state, first and last name with DOB, or business name. The inspected controls showed Search and Sign In/Register. No warrant-status control, public export, or result-limit setting was documented.
Use citation and license paths before entering an SSN. The fields do not make this a countywide warrant database. A Harlingen, San Benito, Los Fresnos, La Feria, or JP case has its own court route. The Brownsville Municipal Court page identifies its jurisdiction and contact routes.
The county manifest includes a view of the blank Brownsville lookup controls. Open the official Tyler search to reach the current form.

Cameron County Warrant Search Results and Status
No single public Cameron County result layout or number format was documented. The county’s magistrate and custody sources show that a case record may contain several identifiers and status fields, but they do not promise that a public search returns every item below.
| Warrant key | FORMAT NOT PUBLISHED No consistent public warrant-number pattern was found. |
|---|---|
| Cause number | Links the question to the case file and issuing court. |
| Charge / offense | The record’s label and class; it does not by itself show current status. |
| Issuing court | The judge or court that controls recall, appearance, and case action. |
| Bond / status | May include an amount or text such as PR, no-bond, served, or no longer in effect. Confirm the meaning with the court. |
Cameron County Public Warrant Records Requests
For sheriff-held records that a public page does not show, the Sheriff’s Public Information Act poster documents requests by mail, email, in person, or fax. Direct a narrow request to Cameron County Sheriff Office, 7300 Old Alice Road, Olmito, TX 78575; email CCSO.PUBLICINFORMATION@CO.CAMERON.TX.US or fax (956) 554-6780. Ask for an existing record, such as an executed warrant, affidavit, service return, or bond record.
Include the record type, court or agency, date range, and identifiers needed to locate your own record. The poster says the agency should send an estimate when charges exceed $40 and may require a deposit when the estimate exceeds $100. Those are public-record cost rules, not a warrant fee. Ten working days is not a promise that every request will be completed.
Review the Sheriff’s PIA poster before sending a request.
Cameron County Warrants: Who Holds What
Start with the court printed on the record. District criminal cases use the Cameron County District Clerk; Class A and B misdemeanor files use the County Clerk’s Criminal Department; traffic and ordinance matters may belong to one of ten Justice of the Peace courts or a city municipal court. The County Courts at Law directory and District Court directory help route a case by venue.
Texas has no public statewide warrant search that replaces local confirmation. DPS’s Failure to Appear/Failure to Pay Program and OmniBase relate to license-renewal compliance after court reporting. They are not a complete arrest-warrant index. The DPS program page tells people to contact the reporting court.
Match Cameron County Warrant Searches to the Court
Do not choose a court only because its office is near where a citation was received. Brownsville city citations and Cameron JP citations are separate matters. Harlingen city court is distinct from JP 5-1 and JP 5-2; Los Fresnos city court is distinct from JP 4-1; La Feria Municipal Court is distinct from JP 5-3. The venue named on the paper controls the first call.
The county online-payment index links precinct-specific portals, but the research captured only landing text for most JPs. A payment landing page can help locate a citation. It does not confirm that a capias or FTA has been recalled. Ask the clerk what proof will show that the court has updated the case.
Cameron County Restricted Warrant Access Rules
The Texas Public Information Act generally covers government records, but other laws can limit access. Texas Family Code §58.010 makes a child’s arrest warrant and supporting complaint or affidavit confidential, with limited authorized disclosure. Sealed records, active investigative material, and protected personal information may also be withheld or redacted under the law that applies to that record.
Key Rules:
Government Code Chapter 552 gives access to existing public information, subject to exceptions and other confidentiality laws.
Family Code §58.010 protects juvenile arrest warrants and their supporting papers.
Code of Criminal Procedure art. 15.17 makes an executed adult arrest warrant and supporting affidavit public through the magistrate clerk; it does not require online posting of every warrant.
A clear result can reflect the wrong venue, a limited index, a delay, or a record that is not public. Ask the issuing court to check its file.
Cameron County Warrant Search and OmniBase
The Texas DPS Failure to Appear/Failure to Pay Program and OmniBase address license-renewal compliance when a reporting court submits an eligible case. They are not a public statewide warrant search and do not collect every municipal, JP, county, or district warrant in one searchable index.
DPS says processing after a court reports clearance may take up to seven business days. A Brownsville municipal notice gives its separate two-to-three-business-day local update estimate after payment. Track both the court case and any license hold independently.
DPS explains the Failure to Appear/Failure to Pay Program and directs people back to the reporting court for case resolution.
